Agents are now information architecture

The category’s AI shift stopped looking like campaign language this fortnight and started showing up in navigation, product pages and changelogs. On 16 Sep, Pipedrive added “Pipedrive MCP” to its navigation and replaced “Say hello to Pipedrive AI” with “Meeting intelligence built into every deal”. On 17 Sep it added a Nova product page, then on 19 Sep and 20 Sep Nova was covered and logged as a built-in meeting intelligence tool that turns sales meetings into CRM updates.

HubSpot made the same move from a different angle. On 18 Sep, it introduced Breeze Assistant and a self-updating CRM in press coverage, added 21 AI use-case and sales-tool pages, and changed its homepage towards a single-platform demand, deal and customer message. On 20 Sep, HubSpot was reported as OpenAI’s first CRM partner for ChatGPT Ads, and its changelog moved from the narrower “Agent Builder” language towards an open platform for AI development.

Attio’s sequence was the cleanest product tell. On 22 Sep, its navigation added Custom Agents, Web Agent, Sequences and Apps and integrations. On 25 Sep, its changelog added workflow history, agent logs and new workflow blocks that turn conversations into action. On 28 Sep, it created a Google Chrome app page. That is not a launch in isolation. It is a CRM vendor filling in the surface area around agent work.

Salesforce and HubSpot are buying the AI control plane

Salesforce used the fortnight to put capital behind service automation. On 27 Sep, Salesforce acquired Fin, an AI customer service platform, for $3.6bn, with the stated aim of enhancing customer service automation. On 25 Sep, reports also said Salesforce was in talks to acquire Listen Labs for approximately $2bn. The same news cycle carried Salesforce’s target of more than $63bn in fiscal 2030 revenue.

HubSpot’s acquisition pattern was smaller but pointed in the same direction. On 28 Sep, Dealroom.co reported that HubSpot acquired Futurepedia for $19.1m and Frame AI for $51.4m. The same day’s observed coverage included analyst price target increases to $275 and $290, following the 26 Sep reports that Truist had lifted its target to $275 and UBS to $290.

The difference is scale and entry point. Salesforce is reinforcing service automation around Agentforce and enterprise customer operations. HubSpot is combining AI, developer openness and SMB-facing advertising distribution, with OpenAI partnership coverage on 20 Sep sitting beside the 28 Sep acquisitions.

The mid-market reset is being done in public

Close made the loudest packaging move. On 22 Sep, it added a new Custom tier, added Chloe and AI features to Solo, removed “Workflows not included” from Solo and Essentials, and removed several items from Growth, including Use Chloe in Workflows and Custom activities. The same day, Close introduced 15 product pages while removing 85 product pages and 54 blog pages.

That was not only pricing. On 22 Sep, Close also redesigned navigation across all pages, moved search from the top bar to the sidebar, and added the “/” shortcut. On 25 Sep, its site navigation added a dedicated Sales automation section, while Office Hours and Live Q&A references were removed. Close is tightening the route from discovery to trial, while Chloe becomes part of the paid-plan conversation.

Pipedrive is making a narrower bet. On 19 Sep, it added Meeting intelligence to navigation and removed Email marketing. On 16 Sep, it removed Sales inbox and added Pipedrive MCP. On 22 Sep, it removed older blog content and a Google Maps integration product page. The visible move is away from broad CRM adjacency and towards sales workflow intelligence.

Trust is the tax on the agent story

Salesforce’s agent push carried operational scrutiny. On 16 Sep, press reports said Salesforce suffered a global outage as Dreamforce began. On 19 Sep, further articles discussed a significant service outage during the conference. On 27 Sep, SecurityWeek and forkast.news reported vulnerabilities in Agentforce that allowed zero-click data exfiltration.

There was also engineering activity around the same surface. On 23 Sep, Salesforce released formula-engine version 0.9.13 and created repositories including AgentforceMobileSDK-Android. On 27 Sep, it released sf-pi version 0.296.1 with a bug fix for sf-llm-gateway related to preserving adaptive thinking metadata, and created repositories including evalon and analytics-embedding-example-apps-and-auth.

HubSpot had a smaller operational event. On 25 Sep, its status page recorded a Salesforce integration issue for some customers lasting about 438 minutes, and a separate incident where some HubSpot tools were unavailable for some users for about 13 minutes. In a CRM market selling automation, the reliability of integrations and agent paths is now part of the product narrative, not back-office hygiene.

The hidden signal was tempo

The ad market was busy enough to matter. On 28 Sep, Salesforce had 39 new Google ad creatives, HubSpot 18, Pipedrive 19 and Attio 8, with each showing 40 creatives running in total. Earlier observations showed 40 new creatives for Salesforce on 26 Sep, 40 for HubSpot on 17 Sep, 40 for Pipedrive on 17 Sep and 40 for Attio on 17 Sep. The launch calendar was not confined to press releases.

Homepage language also moved quickly. Salesforce changed its hero on 23 Sep to “Salesforce. The #1 Agentic CRM”, then on 26 Sep to “Get started with the #1 Agentic CRM”, while adding “Humans with Agents drive customer success together” and an “Explore Agentforce” CTA. HubSpot changed its hero on 18 Sep. Attio changed CTAs and navigation on 22 Sep and again on 26 Sep.

The useful read is not any single phrase. It is simultaneity. Within the same fortnight, the major incumbents, mid-market platforms and younger challengers all rewired pages, ads or navigation around agents, meeting intelligence, AI assistants or workflow automation. The category is not waiting for annual conferences to reposition itself.

The takeaway

The CRM market spent the fortnight turning AI from message into machinery. Pipedrive launched Nova around meeting intelligence from 16 Sep to 20 Sep, HubSpot pushed Breeze, Smart CRM and OpenAI-linked advertising from 18 Sep to 20 Sep, Attio expanded custom agents, app pages and agent logs from 22 Sep to 28 Sep, and Salesforce backed Agentforce with the $3.6bn Fin acquisition on 27 Sep while continuing to rewrite its homepage. The operator read is simple: the battleground is shifting from who says “agentic” most loudly to who embeds agents into workflows, pricing, integrations and trust.
