Mailchimp reprices as AI crowds the lifecycle stack

Lifecycle vendors refreshed tiers, SDKs, ads and AI pages in the same week. Reliability remained part of the product story.

Mailchimp turned packaging into the main event

Mailchimp was the only vendor in the set with repeated pricing and packaging movement. On 4 Oct, its Standard tier gained “Contact limit exceeded” language and lost automations, personalisation and optimisation wording, while Premium gained a 15% saving for 10,000+ contacts and lost “Our most advanced tools”. On 6 Oct, that shifted again: contact limit exceeded was removed from Essentials, Standard regained automations, personalisation and optimisation, and Premium wording changed around unlimited contacts and priority support.

The changes continued. On 7 Oct, testing and scheduling features were added to Essentials, Premium was recast as “built for teams”, and a 15% promotion for 10,000+ contacts appeared. On 9 Oct, the same broad direction was visible: testing and scheduling in Essentials, automations in Standard, and advanced tools in Premium. On 11 and 12 Oct, the promotion was stated as 15% off for 10,000+ contacts for the first 12 months.

This was not just a pricing-page edit. On 8 Oct and again on 10 Oct, Mailchimp’s pricing section listed subscriber ranges from 0 to more than 1,000,000, making contact volume more explicit in the buying path. Around it, the company refreshed expert and partner surfaces: 10 new product pages and 10 removals on 8 Oct, 20 additions and 21 removals on 10 Oct, then 27 additions and 30 removals on 11 Oct.

The timing matters. Mailchimp created new Go, Python and TypeScript SDK repositories tied to marketing functionality on 6 Oct. A developer preview subdomain appeared on 8 Oct, followed by a go-sandbox.mkt.mailchimp.com certificate record on 11 Oct. Pricing, partner discovery, developer surfaces and paid search all moved within the same narrow window, with 40 Google ad creatives observed running on 7 Oct and further creative changes on 9, 10 and 12 Oct.

AI moved from narrative to shelf space

Braze had the cleanest AI news cycle. On 5 Oct, press coverage discussed its self-service push for marketers and new AI tools following an AWS partnership. On 7 Oct, Braze was reported to have launched new AI tools and deepened its AWS collaboration. The same week brought investor-facing coverage: on 7 Oct multiple articles reported a 4.7% share rise, and on 8 Oct reports cited an 8.1% to 9% increase.

Braze backed that with content and hiring signals. On 7 Oct it published a “Marketer’s Guide to Agents” and a KFC Korea on-demand podcast page. On 9 Oct it added a Japanese version of the agents guide and Portuguese articles on predictive analysis and intelligent segmentation. On 11 Oct it added Portuguese articles on dynamic pricing and zero-party data. Job postings also skewed towards go-to-market: seven new roles were observed on 6 Oct, then 12 new roles on 9 Oct, 11 of them in marketing.

Iterable made the more explicit product-page move. On 8 Oct it launched five product pages, including Nova Agent, Nova Decisioning and Nova Insights, plus Audiences and Catalog. Two days later, on 10 Oct, it removed the product features page for Catalog. In the same period, it shipped SDK updates: Android SDK 3.11.0 on 7 Oct, React Native SDK 3.2.0 on 8 Oct, and React Native SDK 3.2.1 on 10 Oct to fix an Android crash when marking an in-app message as read after it was no longer in the native queue.

Klaviyo’s AI work was less headline-led but still visible in the operating layer. On 7 Oct it listed two engineering roles focused on machine learning in Boston, alongside marketing roles in London and Sydney. On 9 Oct, new postings included two engineering roles focused on machine learning. It also released klaviyo-react-native-sdk 2.5.1 on 6 Oct and klaviyo-swift-sdk 5.4.1 on 8 Oct, both tied to session or lifecycle fixes.

The ecosystem fight got more technical

ActiveCampaign’s clearest ecosystem move came on 6 Oct, when it launched a $2 million app development fund for third-party developers building integrations with its platform. The surrounding site changes matched that posture. On 9 Oct, it added product pages for Adzviser and Vybrnt Mercury Nexus integrations in multiple languages while removing pages for Databox, Dataddo, Convenia, D7SMS and Smartsurvey. On 11 Oct, it added Mailgun Validate integration pages in multiple languages and removed pages tied to Timetoreply, 46elks and SendHub.

Klaviyo also pushed on commerce and regional plumbing. On 4 Oct, it released version 5.2.0 of its Magento 2 repository, updating the OAuth callback URL to support EU region accounts. On 8 Oct, it created a new SFCC_Klaviyo repository. On 11 Oct, it created a repository called flows-test-account-custom-catalog-sync. These are not brand campaigns, but they are the kind of moves that decide which platform is easiest to embed into a merchant stack.

Braze created sparse-checkout-buildkite-plugin and braze-gtm-actions repositories on 7 Oct. Iterable’s SDK sequence across 7, 8 and 10 Oct aligned Android, iOS, React Native and Flutter behaviour around expiring auth token refresh periods and bridge handling. The competitive centre of gravity is not only templates, segmentation and campaign builders. It is also SDK consistency, regional account support, integration catalogues and the amount of maintenance hidden under the marketer’s interface.

Paid search was loud, reliability louder

The ad layer was crowded. Brevo had 40 new Google ad creatives observed on 4 Oct, then 37 on 6 Oct, 31 on 8 Oct, 32 on 9 Oct and 31 on 11 Oct, with 40 creatives running in those snapshots. Klaviyo showed 39 new creatives on 4 Oct, 37 on 6 Oct, 18 on 8 Oct, 13 on 9 Oct and 30 on 11 Oct, also with 40 running in the later observations. Mailchimp had 40 new creatives on 7 Oct and 40 running again in subsequent snapshots. Braze showed new creative activity throughout the window, including 21 on 6 Oct, 20 on 8 Oct, 12 on 9 Oct and 30 on 11 Oct.

Brevo paired paid media with video. On 7 Oct, it released seven YouTube videos built around “Le bon message, à la bonne personne, au bon moment”, promoting email, SMS and WhatsApp solutions. The same week, its campaign drew press criticism: on 7 Oct and 9 Oct, coverage described the new ad campaign as sending “the wrong message at the wrong time”, referring to an article published on 6 Oct.

Reliability incidents were visible across three vendors. On 7 Oct, Brevo’s status page showed four incidents, including a critical ecommerce orders issue resolved after about 11 minutes and a minor email sending delay resolved after about 288 minutes, alongside event-processing monitoring and a non-impactful item. On 9 Oct, Klaviyo reported a minor analytics event-processing delay and a critical login and page-loading incident that lasted around 73 minutes before resolution. On 11 Oct, ActiveCampaign reported delayed WhatsApp message responses for about 203 minutes before resolution.

For lifecycle platforms, reliability is not back-office hygiene. It is part of the promise. These products sell the right message, channel and moment. The week’s status pages showed how hard that promise is when email, SMS, WhatsApp, analytics, login, in-app messaging and ecommerce order flows all sit inside the same operating surface.

The takeaway

This was not a quiet week. Mailchimp repeatedly changed packaging from 4 to 12 Oct while rebuilding pricing ranges, expert pages, SDK surfaces and paid search. Braze, Iterable and Klaviyo moved AI from copy into product pages, SDKs, repositories and hiring. ActiveCampaign put capital behind integrations with its $2 million app development fund on 6 Oct. At the same time, Brevo, Klaviyo and ActiveCampaign all had visible status incidents. The market is no longer just a fight over campaign creation. It is a fight over packaging, developer gravity, AI surface area and whether the message actually arrives when promised.
