The takeaway
AI commerce became commercially real this fortnight: Shopware priced Intelligence+, Shopify narrowed an Agentic tier promise, and Commercetools removed free entry points in favour of Custom sales. Under that, the operational race continued in checkout, POS, sync handling, developer tooling and security patches. The strongest signal was the constant public editing of app pages, documentation, partner pages and customer walls. In e-commerce platforms, positioning is no longer refreshed quarterly. It is being rewritten day by day.
AI stopped being just a theme
The fortnight was not quiet. The clearest movement was in AI packaging, where vendors changed the commercial and product surfaces rather than merely publishing thought leadership. On 1 Sep, Shopware added new Intelligence+ tiers for Community Edition at €29 per month and for Rise, Evolve and Beyond at €19 per month, while removing the previous Intelligence+ tier labels. On the same day, Commercetools added a Custom tier marked Contact us and removed Free Trial, Custom Plan and Free tiers.
Shopify moved differently. On 3 Sep it removed 'Choose which AI channels to sell in' from its Agentic tier. On 4 Sep it added product pages for digital products and AI integration, while press coverage reported its Gisting feature for compressing LLM system prompts into learned tokens. Shopware also created or updated agentic-commerce repositories across 1 Sep, 4 Sep and 6 Sep, and published three EU AI Act blog pages on 4 Sep.
The message is specific: AI commerce is being priced, fenced and documented. Shopify narrowed a tier promise, Shopware put Intelligence+ into named monthly packaging, and Commercetools made its entry motion less self-serve. That is a market moving from feature discovery to commercial control.
The developer surface widened fast
Every major vendor in the set shipped developer-facing work. BigCommerce released checkout-sdk-js 1.32.1 on 2 Sep and again surfaced the 1.32.1 release on 7 Sep, fixing getters that did not return previous cloned objects. It released bigpay-client-js 2.11.0 on 31 Aug with a configuration setter, and create-catalyst 2.0.4 on 5 Sep with patch changes and dependency updates.
Shopify's cadence was broader. On 2 Sep it released @remote-dom/signals 2.1.1 to guard receivers against late mutations on detached nodes. On 4 Sep checkout-kit moved to 4.0.0-alpha.6 with telemetry configuration that lets users opt out of limited anonymous diagnostic metrics. On 5 Sep @shopify/app-bridge-react 4.2.13 stabilised SaveBar and Modal ref callbacks for React 18, and on 7 Sep semian v0.27.1 added an exponential_backoff_error_timeout feature.
Commercetools and Shopware kept the platform plumbing visible. Commercetools released @commercetools/graphql-sdk 0.1.1 on 3 Sep, @commercetools/nimbus 3.5.1 on 4 Sep, and updates for Adyen and Voucherify integrations on 2 Sep and 5 Sep. Shopware released 6.7.13.1 on 2 Sep and 5 Sep with security fixes blocking Twig templates from calling arbitrary PHP functions through specific operators, and also shipped shopware-cli 0.18.3 on 4 Sep.
Checkout became an operations story
The practical work clustered around checkout reliability, store-floor recovery and catalogue accuracy. On 2 Sep, Shopify added the ability to scan or search product variants using multiple barcodes and added POS Home connectivity status. On 4 Sep, Shopify POS gained the ability for permitted store staff to view an identified customer's abandoned online checkout, linking online intent to in-store completion.
WooCommerce shipped similarly operational improvements. On 4 Sep, Google for WooCommerce 3.9.3 changed broken Google connection handling so syncing pauses and notifies the user, instead of processing rejected authentication tokens one product at a time. On 7 Sep, WooCommerce 11.1 added image galleries for each product variation without requiring an additional extension, with the gallery updating when a shopper selects a variation.
There were also service and security reminders. BigCommerce reported resolved delays in search document updates affecting Control Panel and Storefront experience on 2 Sep, lasting approximately 143 minutes with no user impact, and reported delayed email delivery to Microsoft-hosted inboxes under investigation on 4 Sep. On 1 Sep, WooCommerce-related plugin CVEs were published, including Dokan ownership verification issues with CVSS 4.3 scores, and Shopify-tracked LiquidJS CVEs included arbitrary code execution before version 10.26.0 and an infinite loop issue in versions 10.26.0 to 10.27.1.
The website changes told the quieter story
The public websites were unusually busy, and the sequencing mattered. WooCommerce changed product and documentation pages on 1 Sep, 2 Sep, 3 Sep, 4 Sep, 5 Sep and 6 Sep. It added 11 product offerings on 1 Sep, five more on 2 Sep, seven on 3 Sep, MailPoet, Google for WooCommerce and AutomateWoo pages on 4 Sep, then launched Abandoned Cart Recovery and Cashback for WooCommerce on 5 Sep. On 6 Sep it introduced six new documentation pages, including best-sellers and gift wrapper, while removing six pages related to product blocks and templates.
That churn was not isolated. BigCommerce added app pages for ActionPop Email Popups and Upsell, FFL Cockpit and Simple MFA on 2 Sep, B2B Quote2Cart on 3 Sep, CookiePrime Consent Management and a BigCommerce Payments Playbook on 4 Sep, then four more app pages on 5 Sep. Commercetools added a builders blog on 1 Sep, a 2026 SaaS Award press page on 2 Sep, technical debt and POS buying-guide content on 3 Sep, a Lottie demo page on 4 Sep and a Delaware service-partner page on 5 Sep. Shopware added EU AI Act blogs and Let's Talk BV partner pages on 4 Sep while removing six pages tied to other partner agencies.
Customer walls also rotated. Shopify added Olivia & Kate and Tsuchiya Kaban on 2 Sep, Db Journey, Flabelus and Scalpers on 3 Sep, and Edible Blooms on 4 Sep, while removing named customers on each of those days. Commercetools added ARK Bokhandel as a case study on 1 Sep, Etam and Leica to its customer wall on 3 Sep, and Breville and Cepheid case studies on 3 Sep. WooCommerce added new logos across 1 Sep to 6 Sep, including Universal Yums, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Mount Sapo, Yumi, Green Mountain Grills, Cora + Spink, Nutribullet, Isle of Paradise, Bird Buddy and Chania Honey.
The useful signal is not any single new page. It is the pattern of rapid additions, removals and reversals across adjacent surfaces. Abandoned cart appeared in WooCommerce removals on 4 Sep and as a new product page on 5 Sep. Best-sellers and gift wrapper disappeared from one WooCommerce product-page set on 4 Sep and appeared as documentation topics on 6 Sep. In a category where the product is partly the ecosystem, the market is now being edited in public.
