The takeaway
Product analytics is being repositioned as AI context infrastructure, not just behavioural reporting. Amplitude pushed agentic analytics, Headless Amplitude, AI Agents and MCP into the public surface. PostHog recast itself as a context layer while expanding data warehouse sources, replay controls and free-tier flag volume. Mixpanel paired a $200M Series C on 18 Sep with new AI agent, warehouse connector and real-time event stream documentation. Underneath the narrative, the fight is increasingly about SDK adoption, integration breadth, package velocity and data delivery reliability.
The new homepage is not about charts
Product analytics vendors spent the fortnight rewriting the category’s job description. On 28 Sep, Amplitude added a product page titled "State of Agentic Analytics" and removed a Korean page for an AI-related offering. The same day, PostHog changed its hero from "Make your product self-driving" to "Your product's context layer", with subtext broadened from a demo-specific promise to ingestion, storage, querying and action across data types.
That is not a cosmetic split. Amplitude is putting agentic analytics into a named asset, while PostHog is trying to own the underlying context layer. Mixpanel followed the same current from a different entry point: on 26 Sep it added seven documentation pages covering AI agents and data warehouse connectors, after adding real-time event stream documentation on 18 Sep.
The market signal is simple. Product analytics is being repackaged as the operational memory for software teams and AI agents. The vendors still sell instrumentation, cohorts and funnels, but the public surface now leads with context, agents, warehouse flow and action.
The category rebuilt itself in public
The important movement was not any single launch. It was the clustering. On 17 Sep, Amplitude added "Headless Amplitude" to navigation and removed "Guides" and "Surveys". On the same day, it changed packaging around AI Agents and MCP. On 25 Sep, it added 30 product pages, many focused on analytics tools for Next.js, while removing 18 product pages and six blog pages. On 28 Sep, it added the agentic analytics page.
PostHog showed the same compression. It changed pricing on 14 Sep and 21 Sep, moved twelve Data Warehouse sources including Close, App Store Connect, Webflow and Pipedrive to general availability on 21 Sep, added and removed documentation across 18 Sep, 21 Sep and 26 Sep, then changed the homepage line on 28 Sep.
The ad layer moved alongside the product layer. Amplitude had 40 Google ad creatives running by 27 Sep, with 38 new creatives and the earliest first shown on 28 Aug. PostHog also had 40 running by 26 Sep, after 35 new creatives were observed on 18 Sep and 30 on 22 Sep. Mixpanel had 40 running on 23 Sep, although with only three new creatives observed then. When navigation, pricing, docs and ads all shift within days, the market is not waiting for annual launch moments. It is repricing the narrative while buyers are still clicking through last week’s pages.
Free tiers became sharper instruments
PostHog used the free tier to steer usage. On 14 Sep, it added 1M requests to Free and removed 1,500 survey responses. On 21 Sep, it added 5K session replays and 1M feature flag requests, while removing 5K recordings and 100K exceptions. That points attention towards replay and flags, not surveys or exceptions.
Amplitude’s packaging moved twice. On 17 Sep, it added 2M Events per month to Free while removing the "2M Events/month forever" wording. The same change added AI Agents and MCP to Plus, Growth and Enterprise. On 25 Sep, Amplitude removed "First 2M Events/month free" from the Plus tier.
The lesson for operators is that free is no longer a simple acquisition lever in this category. It is a routing mechanism. Vendors are deciding which product surfaces deserve generous trial volume and which ones belong behind a different commercial boundary.
The SDK and integration layer is where adoption shows
The loudest adoption signals came from packages and repositories. On 28 Sep, Statsig’s package activity showed @statsig/js-client up 63% to 4,052,316 weekly downloads, statsig-node up 71% to 901,922, and statsig-node-vercel up 73% to 166,105. Statsig also created statsig-server-core on 21 Sep, terraform-provider-statsig on 18 Sep, and statsig-forward-proxy on 26 Sep.
PostHog kept shipping across posthog-js, @posthog/ai, @posthog/cli and @posthog/react through 16 Sep, 20 Sep, 24 Sep and 27 Sep. On 27 Sep, posthog-js weekly downloads were up 65% and @posthog/ai was up 82%. Its changelog also moved mobile session replay towards production concerns: on 18 Sep, replay touch capture controls could omit touch coordinates for privacy across iOS, Android, Flutter and React Native, and on 26 Sep Flutter Android replay added configurable screenshot resolution, JPEG quality and native-screen pixel formats.
Mixpanel is also leaning into capture and pipes. On 15 Sep it released mixpanel-ios-session-replay-package 1.6.0 with beta wireframes and a fix around exponential backoff. On 18 Sep, mixpanel-flutter added session-replay-v1.2.0 with beta wireframes. Heap’s mobile work was visible too: on 24 Sep it released 0.7.8 of @heap/heap-react-native-autocapture and its Babel plugin, and on 27 Sep four Heap React Native packages rose between 58% and 66% in weekly downloads.
Reliability is the quiet counter-position
The same fortnight that made the category more agentic also reminded buyers that data delivery is still the product. On 18 Sep, Amplitude reported a minor delay in its Realtime Data Pipeline, resolved after about 71 minutes. On 25 Sep, it reported three incidents affecting data delivery: a minor Export Destinations incident of about 94 minutes, plus major incidents related to Export Destinations and Snowflake Data Share lasting about 365 and 364 minutes respectively.
Heap also had resolved incidents on 24 Sep: a minor Heap Connect Syncs issue of about 160 minutes and a minor third-party integration events latency issue of about 952 minutes. These are not existential events. They are, however, the kind of operational facts that matter more as vendors sell themselves as context layers, warehouse connectors and agent infrastructure.
The category can talk about AI, but the buyer still experiences the product as event capture, sync freshness, permissions, mobile performance and export reliability. That is why the most meaningful competitive contrast this week was not only who said "agent" most loudly. It was who could pair that story with credible plumbing.
