The takeaway
This was the week work management stopped treating agents as a feature label and started rebuilding the category language around them. From 16 Oct to 19 Oct, Monday.com, Airtable, Jira and Asana repeatedly changed homepage claims, while Notion expanded AI integrations and Asana added agentic work management content. The public-market and restructuring backdrop sharpened the point: Monday.com faced AI-linked analyst scrutiny, Airtable faced reported post-acquisition layoffs, and Atlassian was reported to be cutting 1,600 roles as it shifted towards AI. The fight is now over who owns the operating layer where people, workflows and agents meet.
The homepage became the market
Between 16 Oct and 19 Oct, the category's front doors moved in near unison. Monday.com rotated its hero across lines including "AI workspace for people and agents", "People and agents work best in one AI workspace" and "People and agents working as one team". Airtable moved between connected-workspace language and "Teams, workflows, and agents. All in one space." Jira alternated between "Turn ideas into forward motion" and "Turn plans into agent-ready tasks". Asana switched between "Supercharge your teams with AI" and "The OS for human-agent teams".
That is not a normal copy refresh. It is a visible argument about what the buyer is being asked to buy: an AI workspace, an agent-ready task layer, an operating system for human-agent teams, or a connected workflow base that now includes agents. The same noun kept moving because the category has not yet settled on the commercial wrapper for agentic work.
The telling detail was the reversions. Airtable's call to action flipped between "Get in touch" and "Try the template for free" on 16 Oct and 19 Oct. Jira's page alternated between sections such as "Intake", "Plan" and "Coordinate" and sections such as "Embed agents in your existing workflow" and "AI Search". Monday.com's phrasing repeatedly moved the emphasis from workspace to collaboration and back again. The signal this week was not simply that everyone said AI. It was how quickly the public language was rewritten, reversed and rewritten again.
Agents are moving from feature to operating model
The common thread was organisational, not decorative. On 17 Oct, Asana added three blog pages related to agentic work management and AI, two product pages focused on AI automation and process automation, and one customer case study, while removing five product pages and one blog page. Its homepage tests around "The OS for human-agent teams" sat alongside new section headings including "Asana Service Management", "Command by Asana", "StackAI by Asana" and "Asana Client Management".
Notion moved in the same direction through integrations. On 17 Oct, it published two blog posts on Notion AI with 160 new apps and added help documentation for connecting SharePoint and OneDrive and managing sidebar presets. That is agent positioning through the existing knowledge and collaboration graph rather than a standalone chatbot frame.
ClickUp's observed move was quieter. On 17 Oct, it published a new blog post titled "Dropbox Dash Alternatives" and removed a previous Motion versus Reclaim comparison post. In a week where larger rivals were changing homepage architecture, ClickUp's visible change was content-market positioning around search and productivity alternatives.
AI scrutiny reached the tape
Monday.com had the sharpest public-market week. On 19 Oct, Barclays downgraded Monday.com to Equal Weight, citing AI concerns, and that downgrade appeared in three articles during the week. On 18 Oct, CTech reported senior management exits as part of a restructuring focused on AI, and Zacks Research downgraded the company to a Hold rating.
The company was not standing still. On 19 Oct, Monday.com added customer case studies for BioPak, TodayTix, Seer Interactive, RMI and Jamf, with no new customer logos added. The same day, it released version 4.2.0 of the @vibe/dropdown package with a new lazy prop to defer mounting the interactive dropdown, and created three repositories: antigravity-plugin, skills and coderpad-practice.
The contrast matters. Monday.com was simultaneously sharpening its AI workspace language, showing customer proof, shipping developer-facing changes and facing analyst questions about AI strategy. In this market, execution signals and narrative risk now arrive together.
Restructuring became part of the AI story
Airtable's week carried acquisition aftershocks. On 17 Oct, articles from Business Insider and The Financial Express reported layoffs after Airtable was acquired by Bending Spoons for $1.28bn. On 18 Oct, Hoodline reported layoffs in Airtable's San Francisco office, while TechRepublic published a guide on creating forms in Airtable.
Airtable's operating surface also changed. On 18 Oct, weekly downloads for several Airtable packages fell materially, including @airtable/blocks from 39,830 to 16,989, @airtable/blocks-testing from 6,896 to 2,142, @airtable/blocks-esbuild-bundler from 3,803 to 1,914 and @airtable/blocks-cli from 4,026 to 2,000-plus. On 19 Oct, Airtable's public marketing homepage stack included Google Analytics, Marketo and Next.js, while HubSpot was removed.
Jira had its own version of the same tension. On 17 Oct, one article covered new Jira Service Management features aimed at IT service management, while another reported Atlassian layoffs of 1,600 employees and a shift towards AI. Its homepage oscillation between agent-ready tasks and forward motion made the same point in product language: enterprise work management is trying to preserve familiar workflows while recasting them for agents.
